Pharmacy Online Portal System Capstone Project Document

Introduction

The American Pharmacists Association has described pharmacy as having a mission which is the responsibility of ensuring the use of medication in the right way and manner, and enjoying the services of drugs to ensure the achievement of optimized results in therapeutic applications. The practice of pharmacy involves the general implementation of medical orders which entails the evaluation and the interpretation of the medical orders, the administration of drugs, dispensation of prescribed drugs from qualified medical practitioners, the review of prescribed drug regimen, and the correct storage of drugs (Adam Prus 2009).

In addition, the birth of modern pharmacy has brought with it some positive effects in the society; like the increase in life expectancy globally from 45 years to 50 years, which some argue is as a result of the number of breakthroughs recorded in pharmacy over the last century. These breakthroughs such as: the discovery of new compounds in

battling existing ailments and the invention of methods and devices to

accurately dispense drugs have been welcomed with open arms by the society. (Federation International Pharmaceutique, 2012).

The proposed system aims to connect and serve as an intermediary between pharmacy, drug suppliers and customer. Through a platform that allows Pharmacy can gain more costumers and can improve or add some products that they don’t have yet. Most customers are in need to go to the pharmacy or drug store to buy without knowing if the that pharmacy can provide their needs. By this system customer can search check and compare the presence of each drug in Pharmacy.

Background of the study

The term Pharmacy is the technique of preparing, dispensing and review of drugs were they can provide and add clinical services. Its is a health job that relate to  health science with a pharmaceutical sciences and aims to ensure the safe, effective, and affordable use of drugs.

Originally, portals is also  known as the links page which can presents information from diverse sources in a unified way. However, these portals serve a variety of different purposes. Typically, online portals are designed to offer users an assortment of the most used types of information and services (Ventimiglia, 2013).

Twin Top Pharma & sales Distributors Inc and Mims Pharmacy is  still using the manual process in the daily transactions that can affect customer’s satisfaction considering they have already that system on there store which they encode all their medicines stocks and some other transactions, but they still prefer to use the manual process since the system that is existed is not accurate due to the absence of automated system. Therefore the researcher decided to develop an automictic system that provides the convenience of the pharmacy and their customer, plus study this will use the Rapid application development (RAD).

Pharmacists rely heavily on technology to help them to do tasks that are often complex. Over the past 40 years, information technology has had a major impact on the working lives of millions of people. Many industries have embraced computer technology because of the benefits of automated information processing. These include enabling routine, repetitive and monotonous tasks to be conducted with consistent accuracy; standardization and consistent use of terminology and nomenclature; and mass customization the capacity of information technology to provide services to a large population, yet in a way that can be customized to the individual (Smith, 2013).

Objectives of the study

The purpose of this study is to develop a web based Pharmacy Online  Portal in order to enhance the  customers knowledge about the  availability and the price comparison of pharmacy products in a the pharmacy store with in Bacolod City. Specially this study aimed to developed the following:

  1. To design and developed pharmacy online portal system that can;
    1. Provides information to the customers who want to know the availability of medicines in the particular pharmacy;

Content Management Systems

A Content Management System (CMS) is one that is used to manage information, be it web-based systems or information delivery systems. These kinds of systems carefully manage data in an organized fashion in documents and borders that can be easily understood and is also presentable (Holm, Rudis & Wilson, 2015). The content stored in the system is done in a native format which enables the easy retrieval of information. Most content management systems have various processes embedded in them during the retrieval of information. They also enable accessibility features such as search boxes, user interaction, customization, all of which improve on user experience (Rockley, Manning, & Kostur, 2003). CMS are contained in frameworks which are used for online systems which involve trading of goods and services. One of such services can be seen in Amazon, which is an American company that deals with the sale of all kinds of goods from verified vendors.

CVS pharmacy mobile application

This application is used on phones and tablets and runs on the android and iOS platforms on these devices. The mobile application is used for prescription management and offers discount to users of the application. The application has proven helpful in drug prescription management as it offers a number of features. It allows its users to manage what prescription drugs they need to take and when they need to take them. The application has proven to be helpful to the older folk who are more vulnerable to diseases due to aging. The users may forget what time they need to take their prescription or the dosage to take, but the application notifies them and prevents missed dosages (CVS, 2015). Moreover CVS provides easy to download the file it light size. It causes clients to realize when to take their medications.

Walgreens mobile application

This application allows users to scan barcodes at drug dispensaries and keeps track of medication in-takes. The application is fundamental in checking for the legitimacy of medication remedies, as people have appeared medicine of medications might be faked. The application enables clients to make accounts which are connected to the standardized tags of explicit medications, which enables the clients of the application to have a type of confirmation in the grabbing of the doctor prescribed medications (Walgreens, 2015).

In addition Walgreens mobile application enables clients to filter standardized identifications at dispensaries which brings another advancement. It is light and simple to download and can be gotten to on a telephone or on other cell phones.

Synthesis

The related systems that have been discussed in this research is vital to the development of the proposed system for Pharmacy Online Portal System  which can help the pharmacy owner to gain more customer, to see the ranges of prices of each pharmacy and to help customers better knowledge that specific medicine. Furthermore, the related systems provide substantial information for the researcher in the building the proposed system  and improve its feature and functions that will benefit to the end user.

The researcher have conducted a research of related systems that compared and studied based on the functionality and the features of the researched system. The related system can also help the proponents have ideas on how to make the research system reliable, presentable  and a friendly user  that can have a better  result.

The goal of this system is to provide information about the medicine you need , to give idea for the prices of each pharmacy for the specific medicine. This will be  a great help for each person if this proposed system will be implemented.

Methodology

The purpose of this chapter is to exhibit system flow and strategies connected in this study.

The Proponents pursued the standard software development life cycle(SDLC), to show and present the answers for the issues recognized , using Rapid application development (RAD). James Martin invented rapid application development in 1991, as a response to the

inadequacies of the Waterfall methodology for developing software.

Rapid Application Development

Rapid Application Development

The development process is the arrangement of exercises that aides the development software. A software development process model is separated in to various activities. Basic activities of a software engineering processes are as follows :

Phase 1 : Requirements Planning

Meeting with the project leader, researcher and the programmer to discuss the needs, projects scope and requirements of the system that need to be developed.

The proponents plan to seek existing system and its features, after that the proponents study a new development from the existing system. The proponents found out that the existing system needs to developed more and to upgrade its features in order to keep up with the new trends in information technology.

Phase 2 : User design

The proponents design the process where the pharmacy see a working prototype and give input on new requirement to the changes and newly developed system. The proponents has come up an idea to design the most simplest interface to get the attention of the pharmacy and customers, in line with that the proponents used the black and white color to be more readable. In our proposed system the customer and pharmacy could easily use the system because of two transition in our interface in which the customer could locate the pharmacy and customer login at the upper far right of the interface. In addition, the logo and search bar of the system is located at the center of the page.

  1. Prototype often used in the final
Phase 3 : Rapid Construction

The proponents develop first the back end portion of the system including the maintenance and databases of the system. The proponents makes sure that all data gathered from the pharmacy was filled out in the system’s database including the customers data, pharmacy data and medicines data. Consequently, the proponents construct the desired design of the system to see the output of the maintenance are functional. In the admin page, the administrator could view the registered admin user. The proponents designed that the  admin user only could add, edit and delete in the admin page.

Phase 4 : Cutover

In this phase the proponents proposed system presented to the customer for consideration through evaluation of the proposed system and recognize the strengths and weaknesses. Comments and suggestions that we collect from the customer to  upgrade of system in order to meet the objectives. The proponents allow the customer evaluates the proposed system for the satisfaction need, the recent proposed system is refined according to the customer requirements, then the proponents will enhance accordingly.

Operational Feasibility

The objectives of this system study are to develop the following

functionalities:

  1. The Admin’s privileges are role based, thereby allowing for Role access control for the security.
  2. An online web-based application that can be gotten to anyplace through the use of internet connection.
  3. Provide a sort of idea which allows the pharmacy to monitor their price comparison into other pharmacy.
  4. View medicine products of the pharmacy.

Front End

The proponents uses CSS or Cascading Style Sheets for the design of the proposed system because it is more efficient and easy to use. And for the application itself the proponents used PHP as a language.

Back End

The proponents used MySQL because this database framework utilized with PHP. MySQL is a database framework utilized on the web. It is a database framework that keeps running on a server. It is perfect for both little and substantial applications. MySQL is exceptionally quick, dependable, and simple to utilize. It underpins standard SQL. It accumulates on various stages, it is likewise allowed to download and

utilize.

Technical Feasibility

Technical feasibility revolves around the current computer system (hardware, software, and so forth.) and to what expand it can support the proposed expansion. For instance, if the present computer is working at 80 percent limit – an arbitrary roof – at that point running another application could overload the system or require extra hardware. This includes money related contemplations to oblige specialized improvements. In the event that the monetary allowance is a genuine requirement, at that point, the project is judged not practical.

Cost Benefit Analysis

Economic analysis is the most often utilized strategy for assessing the adequacy of an application system. All the more generally known as Cost-benefit, the technique is to decide the advantages and reserve funds that are expected from a candidate system and contrast them and expenses. If benefits overweigh costs, at that point the choice is made to structure and execute the system. Something else, further avocation or modifications in the proposed framework should be made whether it is to get an opportunity of being endorsed. This is a continuous exertion that improves in precision at each stage in the framework life cycle.
