Online Grading System Capstone Project Document

Introduction

Technology was the one that control the business industries today; it could make human works easy and efficient. The different system was made for different purpose. Having a system to an organization was one way to have an innovation it is the start of having an efficient work for every employees and client. We as student conducted study on our school on how can we help the student and the instructor to have an efficient output in having a grade of a student online and generating reports of the students and instructor, and help the instructor put the prelim, midterm, and final grades of the student online.

They want an innovation that could benefit both students and school. Human was never contented of technology, and other services, Now a days companies was always formulating some ideas and techniques to full fill the needs and wants of the people. We also as a student’s we are never contented, us always want improvement especially in services. Improvement that could benefits our own school. And as an information system student, we the proponents gather information and formulating ideas and propose the ABC COMPANY  ONLINE GRADING SYSTEM. We propose this system because it will be effective in a way

That the faculties enable to encode the grades through this system. This system is one way of helping the registrar to work more efficient and it is one way of helping the Students to have a web based grading inquiry.

Background of the Study.

People formulating ideas to invent or to have strategic methods to make some best solutions and innovation to their business .and we as an IS student we conduct some study on our school and we ask some feedback from the students regarding on the how they give the grading system from registrar office to students on ABC Company . As an information Ssystem student we formulated some ideas and we proposed the online grading system that would make their lives easier.

The current system was stand-alone system, and it can only access by the registrar office. They use the old system for many years but as time passed by student want more effectively and efficiently grading system that they can access anytime. There are some situations that if they want to get there grades on the day of enrollment, the registrar cannot accommodate all of the students, and the another problem is they cannot give the grades of a student if it is incomplete.  The proponents propose an Online Grading System. It is accessible to phones and this system will really help them in a way that they don’t need to fall in line on the registrar office.  The proponents provide a system that is very helpful for the information system instructor and students because in this system the instructor can encode also there grades through online like quizzes, eexam and some other activities by using the current standard grading system of the school.

Statement of Objective

The study intended to provide an easier way to release the grades of the student every last semester .To design and develop the a grading online information system that can be able to access the grades of student of ABC Company , the current system will be upgraded into online so that it could access by students anywhere.it also aim that the teacher can encode the grades of the students online.

  • Intended to provide an efficient and less time consuming grading inquiry
  • To have a web based online grading system to students
  • Enable faculty encode the prelim, midterm, and final grades on online grading system
  • To have a system that could see the reports of the population in the school
  • Provide a grading system that is connected the admin, teacher, and the student online.

Conceptual Framework

A conceptual framework is an analytical tool with several variations and contexts. It is used to make conceptual distinctions and organize ideas. Strong conceptual frameworks capture something real and do this in a way that is easy to remember and apply.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study has also a scope and its limitation that they are deal with. The study has their different function and uses. The scope and delimitation will discuss separately

Scope of the study

Our study has consisted only the grades of the students every last semester, the study will be more focusing on providing the grades of students and they can print it out. The faculty can encode the Prelim, midterm and final grades of the students through online. The system will have the reports of the population in the school specifically courses, the name of the students and the Teachers load. The filtering of the subjects, It  will provide the grades of every current semester .It  will provide its own id number for user.

Delimitation of the study

The study has their own limitation will be discuss by the following; this study does not cover the subject evaluation and the ranking of the dean’s list. The enrolment record of the students does not cover of our system.

The schedule of student and accounts does not cover by our study and it will not provide the grades of the students on his past grades. It does not also provide the grades to be authenticated for the scholars or other purposes. They have to go to the registrar, for authentication. If the instructor submitted wrong grades of the student, the grading information system is not reliable in the human error. Only registered ID numbers are qualified to inquire their grades and it will not cover the instructor’s schedule.

Significance of the study

Everything that the proponents created has its significance and importance. The proponents were created an online grading system for ABC Company  – Fortune Towne Campus only for Bachelor of Science in Information system instructor and students only.

The study will benefit as follows:

The Proponents – we will be the one who can benefit the system because we made this system for our thesis project.

School- the school could also benefits from this system in a way that they can help them in accreditation of the school

Faculty- They has an access to the system because they can record the prelim, midterm and final grades of the students through online.

Registrar – it will lessen their work on the time of realizing the grades, and only small amount of the students will get their grades on that day, and the admin could generate the report.

Students – This system could provide their grades anytime they want it could also help them to save time because they don’t need to go on the registrar office.

What is class base?

Class base is an online education database providing information on education systems and academic institution around the world

About University Rankings

Class base are university rankings are a web ranking that indicates the importance of the Global online presence of colleges and universities rather than these two indicators. Online presence is a good indicator of the significance, popularity and breadth of content provided by an institution on the web. More popular and respected institution tends to rank higher as a result.

Class base rankings are calculated using web services such as Alexa, Bing, and goggle. These services use proprietary algorithms to determine the importance of a specific institution online presence, which means we have no direct influence over the rankings our methodology is tailored toward anyone looking for a quick overview of the academic institutions in different Countryy.

The Lovely Professional University (2011) promotes a culture of paperless University. The day to day administration and most of the University procedures are carried out online. The University Management System (UMS), an online portal of University, is one such innovative step of the University to provide vital information regarding academics and other University logistics for assisting the University students, their parents and the staff.

According to Wikipedia (2014), in the past, universities and large school districts in particular have created their own bespoke student record system. One such example in the Repository of Student Information (ROSI) system at University of Toronto. With growing complexity in the business of educational establishments, most organizations now choose to buy customizable software, and increasing numbers are buying software as a service (SAAS). Most student information systems in use today are server-based, with the application residing on a central computer server, and being accessed by client application at various places within and even outside the school. (“Class based University Ranking,” n.d.)

Synthesis

The group was conducted an interview on some students of the school and research some information in the internet who use also an online grading system. We also gather data, all the information on how they put this kind on concept about the system from other schools. This information also helps us to conduct ideas that could help the school and the students. We put all our ideas and combine to have this kind of system.

We as an Information system students propose Online Grading System that could help our own school to have a grading system that is accessible from the students. The system is the easy way to look and have their grades using online. The Proponents proposed also this system to provide a starting point for college to consider their online encoding of grades and it will also help to provide the number of reports of the student, subject, teacher and overall population of the school.

Methodology

In this chapter, introduce the research strategy and techniques applied by the proponents. The proponents give the interrelation between the different sections of the chapter. This chapter defines the different data gathering procedures and research methodology that were used and upgraded online system. The system development life cycle (SDLC) may discussed by the proponents by an easier way and understand manner  through basic process are as follows; Planning Phase ,Analysis Phase, Design Phase, Development Phase, Testing Phase, Implementation Phase, and Maintenance Phase. This stage may discuss further about the online grading system. The Proponents Use Laptops with the operating System of windows 7and we used sublime to edit text in html; for the design development the proponents used also CSS in order to make the system clear and easy to access. The proponents use PHP for server side scripting language and the proponents use MySQL for database.

Planning Phase

.The proponents found that the school has a problem encountered by the students of ABC Company  by getting there grades every last semester. In this stage the Proponents formulating ideas on how to upgrade the system and help the students, faculties and registrar. The proponents gather the ideas of each in every one of them and decided on what are the study tittles of what they are going to propose. After they conduct study on each company, they rank their tittles according on what they will prioritize.

Analysis phase

In this phase, the proponents gathered and processed all the data information that having from the time of interview and survey from the desired Company or client. After the panelist choose the Online Grading  Information System we the proponents conducted research on idea in the books and the internet on what we are going to do to made the system successfully. We analyzed what we are going to do on the system and what are the steps that we are going to take.

Design Phase

Iterative and Incremental Waterfall Model

Iterative and Incremental Waterfall Model

In design phase we plan of what kind of looks or what is the best style or art that we will be having on our system. We decided  to used iterartive and incremental  waterfall model because thae flow of our system is on going process through its end.

The Proponents used various laptops and computer, with the operation system of window 7 and latest version of OS; Sublime text to edit text for HTML; BOOKSTRAP for the markup languages, for the design development, the proponents used CSS in order to make the system clear and easy to access. The proponents used PHP for server side scripting language and MYSQL for database.

Development Phase

The system develop to reached the desire of the client or the company specifically the ABC Company -Fortune Towne (ABC COMPANY -FT) to have an web based recording of prelim, midterm and final grades of the student to also a web based online grading inquiry.

All the information that have been gathered and analyzed the proponents create what will be the face of the system and after that, they start the hand coding, creating table and creating data flow. The proponents are working for the system and it is the stage for making there documentation. This phase we measure what are we have done and what are the development of the system.

Testing Phase

In this phase, the proponents conduct experiments or dry ran to test the efficiency and the effectiveness of the system. It refers about checking

Stage of the system made where able to identify all the errors and malfunctions of the system this test is the bases if the system that made by a proponents is successful and the company or the client would be satisfied. We will conduct the testing in a school which is the user is the teacher and the student. If it is successfully, it depends on

The proponents or the company if they would implement it. The instructor will put the grades on teacher dashboard and the student will

View his/her grades in student dashboard using its own id number and password.

Implementation Phase

After the testing phase run, successfully this would be the time that the proponents take actions to implement the system. The proponents will coordinate on the school to implement the system it should be connected on the goggle to be search and used by the users. The users will be the instructor and the students.

Maintenance Phase

In the maintenance, phase the system need maintenance before end of the semester to update the grades of the students on the database.

The system needs maintenance to maintain the functionality and the have the correct grades information of the students. The admin can also update what are the new subjects offer, courses, and name of the new students on the school. This purpose is relevant for the maintenance of the system, which can be offered functionalities, and performances of the system and every time that the client will addressed the proponents in updating and enhancing the existing system.

User’s Acceptance Survey

In this section, discuss the target population or a set of person that could benefits from this study. The proponents target to help the school, the student, the registrar and instructors. The proponents target the students in a way that they will provide an accessible online grading for them, and through this system they can get there grades even if the some of the instructor did not submit the grades yet. For the instructors the proponents design a system that could record the prelim, midterm, and final grades. The admin or the registrar, this system could help the admin to see the population reports of the school specifically the teachers load, number and the name of the students in the specific course, year, and section

Operational Feasibility

This study aims to develop the different functionalities of the system:

  • The Online Grading System will be the system that could help the students to get there grades easily
  • The system will provide the grades of the student through his id number and password
  • The instructor could record the prelim, midterm and final grades of the students through standard percentage of the school.
  • The system is capable for monitoring the number of population of population of the faculty and the students This system has a log in features that can help the student to access his own account through his/her id number.

Program Environment

Front End

In front, end is the system architecture for the users. The front end is where the users input there information when they do not have an account yet and if they have already, they can log in in front end. In this study the proponents used PHP language for scripting while HTML, and BOOTSTRAP for users interphase .The proponents use CSS style for design. It has only one log in which can identify the user level

Back End

In the back end is the server side of the system. The proponents used MySQL for database. And PHP for coding the system. MySQL is a database system used with PHP. It is a database system used on the web. A database system runs on a server. It is ideal for both small and large applications. MySQL is very fast, reliable, and easy to use.
